Laos launches online registration system for entry and exit at four border checkpoints starting September 3, 2025

The Lao government has begun testing an online registration system for passport holders at four border points, effective from September 3, 2025.

The system is available at the following checkpoints:

  1. Wattay International Airport (Vientiane)
  2. Luang Prabang International Airport (Luang Prabang Province)
  3. Pakse International Airport (Champasak Province)
  4. First Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge (Nong Khai-Vientiane)

Steps for Online Registration:

  • Pre-register by visiting the website: immigration.gov.la
  • Upon successful registration, you will receive a QR code, valid for 3 days.
  • Present the QR code to immigration officers at the border checkpoint instead of filling out the traditional entry/exit forms.

Note:

  • If pre-registration is not completed in advance, registration can be done upon arrival in Laos, or the standard entry/exit forms can be filled out during the trial period.
  • Travellers using a "border pass" do not need to register online.
  • This system is currently in trial and will be expanded to all international checkpoints across the country in early 2026.
