Mono 29 operator wins broadcasting rights from Sahamongkol Film

MONO Broadcast, the operator of digital television channel Mono 29, has been awarded the broadcasting rights to international films distributed by Sahamongkol Film International, a leading motion-picture production and distribution company.

Nawamin Prasopnet, managing director of Mono Broadcast, said yesterday that under this contract, his company was also granted the right to provide on-demand service to its viewers via its digital platforms.
But he declined to disclose how much was spent for the deal. The new foreign content would be a part of its strategy for the second half of this year.
“We will ensure that our audience will be entertained with the most famous films distributed by Sahamongkol Film International, including ‘Juon’, ‘Step Up’, ‘John Wick’, ‘Hunger Games’, ‘Divergent’ and ‘Pompeii’,” Nawamin said.
Mono 29 is well known as a free TV channel that offers top-rated international television series and films. Of total airtime, 34 per cent is dedicated for films, 29 per cent for TV series, 25 per cent for news programmes, 6 per cent for variety programmes and 6 per cent for children’s and public-service shows.
The station has more than 2,000 films and TV series in its library from leading powerhouses such as Warner Brothers, Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, Walt Disney, Sony Pictures, United International Pictures and Phranakorn Film.
Besides providing entertainment programmes, Mono 29 has also prepared sport programmes such as “Mono 29 Top King World Series” boxing competition.
In a previous interview, chief executive officer Sang Do Lee said the company had earmarked about Bt800 million for this year’s investment.
Of the total, Bt500 million is for acquiring new content, particularly TV series, from overseas distributors. The company plans to produce 12 local TV series, situation comedies and music videos.
Mono 29 is now the No 3 channel in the digital terrestrial TV market.
