Bt20bn central budget approved for farmers
The Cabinet on Tuesday approved the Bt20 billion from the central budget to pay rice debt, as proposed by the National Rice Policy Committee.
Caretaker Deputy Commerce Minister Yanyong Phuangrach said after the Cabinet's meeting that the government would later ask for the Election Commission's approval.
The rice committee proposed that the central budget would be used to partially pay for the rice under the rice-pledging scheme, while the Commerce Ministry is releasing stocks and the Finance Ministry looks for a bridge loan.
The government is yet to pay Bt110 billion to farmers joining the scheme.
