Board approves investment by 18 foreign companies

Commerce Ministry’s foreign investment board has given approval to 18 foreign firms to expand their investments in Thailand, valued at Bt2.76 billion, Vuttikrai Leewiraphan, director-general of the ministry’s Business Development department, said at a press conference yesterday.

 

He added that the new investments will employ up to 897 local staff.
The companies are based in Singapore, Japan, UK, Belgium and China. They will invest in R&D, gas equipment for automobile airbags, medical equipment and trade business, he said.
From January till April this year, the board has given approval for 69 foreign firms to expand their investment in Thailand, an 18-per cent drop from the same period of last year. However the investment values for the first four months of 2019 total Bt9.69 billion, up 99 per cent from the same period of last year, he said.
