More tourists to visit Myanmar this year

Over one million foreign tourists have entered Myanmar from January until the end of April through airports and border checkpoints, according to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

“During the first four months of this year, over a million tourists entered the country,” said Myo Win Nyunt, director of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.
During the same period of last year, 1.04 million tourists entered the country.
Myanmar is expected to welcome over five million tourists this year and the number may be slightly more than last year.
Most of the tourists visiting Myanmar are from Thailand, Japan, China, and some from European countries and the US. Most tourists stay in Myanmar for seven days on average.
The country earned over US$900 million in 2013 and 2014 and is expected to earn over US$1 billion this year.
