Chin, least-populated state
Among 15 states and regions in Myanmar, Chin is the state with the least proportion of the population, according to the national census.
The 2014 census showed the population of only 478,801 in the western state which borders Myanmar and India.
Next is Nay Pyi Taw, the new capital city created in 2006 on the land which was once part of Mandalay. There is 1.16 million population in the city which mainly houses government offices.
In Tanintharyi where the Dawei Special Economic Zone is located, the population is 1.41 million.
In the census, Yangon is the most-populated city in Myanmar with 7.36 million population.
In the 1973 census, the title belonged to Ayeyawady Region, with 4.16 million population. Ten years later, Ayeyawady maintained the position as the population grew to 4.99 million or 14 per cent of the country's total population.
In the latest census, Ayeyawady is the second most densely-populated area, with 6.18 million population.
Mandalay comes third, with 6.17 million.
