Seafood that's made for sharing

Seafood that's made for sharing

BANGKOK- Another Hound Cafe brings Canadian Lobster and Alaska Crab to its new Emporium branch

ANOTHER HOUND Cafe celebrates its new premises at the totally refurbished Emporium and the coming festive season by serving up supersized portions of freshly cooked seafood that simply beg to be shared.

Highlights of this new and succulent feast include Alaska king crab, lobster, squid, soft-shell crab, mussels and clams and they're available exclusively at the Emporium branch.

Slick, chic and glamorous in black and white, the classy restaurant offers luxury lunches, high tea and fine dining in the evening, all under the very capable supervision of chef Romchat Kumsiri.

Those not into seafood and regular patrons will be relieved to learn that Romchat has also maintained the restaurant's mainly Italian menu with spicy Asian twists including the Chinese style corn soup served with crab meat, sliced duck breast salad or Thai style dried fish with feta cheese, pine nut, and balsamic dressing and the fried duck breast with spaghetti, dried chilli, olive oil, and tomato sauce.

The XL Canadian lobster weighs in at 900 grams to a full kilogram. Guests can enjoy it grilled with clarified butter and spicy Thai sauce for Bt2,900, in a set featuring special fat (shrimp) sauce and jasmine rice plus clear soup and fried sliced garlic (also Bt2,900) and poured over spaghetti with chilli, sea salt, and Thai herbs for Bt2,090 (large) and Bt2,900 (jumbo). Grilled Alaska king crab legs grilled with clarified butter and spicy Thai sauce also cost Bt2,900.

"We do not marinate the seafood for very long as this would mask the fresh taste." Romchat says. "And we use mainly olive oil and some Italian herbs like thyme leaf mixed with garlic, coriander roots, pepper.

"Italian food goes very well with Thai food. The taste is not very strong so the overall combination is not too rich but balanced spaghetti, for instance, blends perfectly with Thai food."

Another must-try is Char-grilled Squid (Bt350) with lemon sauce, garlic, and roasted mirin peanut, served with whole wheat bread.

"The squid is about 300g, just right for a full plate. We marinate it with Italian herbs and lots of garlic for half an hour. The peanut adds a different taste and texture," Romchat says.

Steamed Blue Mussel and Clam in White Wine Cream Sauce (Bt390) is very Italian in both style and presentation. "The mussels are imported from the Netherlands and the fresh cream sauce served with baguette is a great combination," she adds.

"Another favourite is our single or double decker soft-shell crab burger, (Bt290 and Bt520). When we first starting matching the seafood and the meat to create a burger, we didn't get it right. Then we tried the soft-shell crab. It was delicious and I'm so glad we got it right," the chef explains, adding that the dish's flavour is enhanced by sliced avocado, wasabi mayo, and Asian slaw.

Another Hound also offers a range of mocktails including "Virgin French Kiss" made with watermelon, lychee and lime juice and "Lychee Delight" with lychee, lychee syrup, lime, strawberry, and soda.

There are also three new cocktails. "Space Mojito" blends Johnnie Walker Gold label with soda, mint, Vietnamese coriander and lime; "Stardust Plum" is a mix of Smirnoff Vodka, Chinese plum ice cube, star fruit juice, and preserved Chinese plum, while "Sun Kiss Beam" is made with Gordon's London Dry Gin, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and raspberry syrup.
