Seven H1N1 suspects in Myanmar

NAYPYITAW -Three out of 10 H1N1 suspects have been discharged from Mandalay General Hospital (MGH), sources say.

Four of them were infected with swine flu, according to the regional public health department.

“Six patients are still being treated. Ten swine flu suspects were admitted to the hospital from July 30 to August 5 and we found four of them are infected with flu. The other patients are awaiting lab results. One cancer patient was admitted to the hospital with suspected swine flu last night. He died this morning. We sent his nasal swabs to Yangon,” said Dr Than Than Myint, head of the public health department.

Two children with suspected swine flu suspected were admitted to the 550-bed Children's Hospital in Mandalay, sources said.

The health authorities have identified 10 swine-flu suspects in Mandalay Region and one patient with a kidney disease admitted to Pyin Oo Lwin General Hospital died with swine flu on August 4.

The department has given lectures in schools on influenza and civic societies are distributing handouts and masks in crowded areas.

The authorities suspended the Taung Pyone festival to prevent contamination and are considering suspending the Yadanar Gu Spirit festival.
