An assistant village headman was ambushed and shot dead in Yala’s Muang district early on Wednesday.

Sakariya Waemamah, 53, was killed on the main village road in Ban Taseh village at about 12.05am while riding his motorcycle home.

Police found 23 spent shells from an M16 assault rifle and two spent shells from a shot gun at the scene.
