Vogue Thailand sets out to raise money to |support aspiring designers through a charity auction

More than 150 of Thailand’s top designers, stylists, fashion photographers, supermodels and A-listers paraded on the Four Seasons Grand Ballroom’s red carpet last Tuesday for a charity gala auction night that set up to raise funds to support Thai designers.

The event, which followed on from the successful campaign by Vogue America, was organised by Vogue Thailand as part of the “Vogue Who’s on Next, The Vogue Fashion Fund” campaign. Bangkok’s version was the brainchild of Vogue editor-in-chief Kulawit Laosuksri and publisher Siree Udomritthirij, managing director of Serendipity Media, the publisher of Vogue Thailand.

The campaign aims to search for talented, aspiring designers whose qualities fit the requirements. Successful candidates will be provided with funding and counselling sessions with business experts over a year to establish their own brands in the substantial fashion industry.

The silent auction for 13 items, most of them created by fashion designers, raised Bt1.44 million. Among the highlights was a necklace designed by Kulawit, which fetched Bt100,000 and went to Bandit Kaesawang, and Sakwut Wisesmanee’s painting inspired by Alexander McQueen’s fashions, which went to designer Disaya Sorakraikitikul for Bt420,000.

Mayuree Chaipornpasit successfully bid Bt100,000 for a lacy Kai Boutique number while an evening gown by Vatit Itthi fetched Bt60,000. Stunning fashion photography by Vogue’s chief lensman won a bid of Bt180,000.

Collector Disaphol Chansiri snapped up the six-month lease on an imported Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet for Bt220,000.
