Pretty ladies all in a row
The contestants taking part in Miss Grand International take in the sights and sounds of Sukhothai
Ninety beautiful ladies hailing from all around the word recently took Suvarnabhumi Airport by storm as they paraded along a makeshift catwalk and introduced themselves before boarding a flight for Sukhothai.
“Many countries are paying attention to the beauty pageant Miss Grand International following last year’s success,” Nawat Itsaragrisil, president of Miss Grand International Organisation and Miss Grand Thailand told the press before joining the ladies on the flight.
“Our concept this year again calls for a halt to the various conflicts in the world and a reduction in violence. Although it is very hard to solve the problems, fighting is certainly not the best solution.
“Last year’s winner Janelee Marcus Chaparro was very active in campaigning for peace in South Sudan and elsewhere and we aim to have our ladies do the same this year.”
During their stay in Sukhothai, the ladies travelled around the city in the traditional “rot khok moo” as the communal pick-ups are known, and paid their respects to the Phra Mae Ya Shrine and the statue of King Ramkhamhaeng. They also spent time at Sukhothai Historical Park visiting Wat Si Chum and its graceful Buddha sculpture enshrined inside the remaining structure of the square mandala building. Much to the delight of local residents, the beautiful babes also spent time at the old market where Miss Grand Thailand 2014 winner Parapassorn “Pla” Disdamrong explained some of the items on sale.
In the evening, they attended a special dinner hosted by Sukhothai Governor Chakkarin Plianwong, taking in a light & sound performance and enjoying a foretaste of the city’s famed Loy Krathong festival.
The next day, the contestants headed out into the countryside to explore farming and organic agriculture before donning swimsuits for a showcase at the Sukhothai Heritage Hotel.
And the winner is …
_ The finals of the Miss Grand International 2014 pageant take place at the Indoor Stadium Hua Mark on October 7. The contest will be broadcast on Channel 7 at 10.30pm.
