GPI gears up for mega auto show, expects industry to accelerate 4.5% this year

Grand Prix International (GPI) expects the auto industry to recover by 4.5 per cent this year amid hopes of a Covid-19 vaccine.

GPI chairman Prajin Aiemlumnao expected sales, both domestic and overseas, to increase to more than 800,000 vehicles compared to 790,000 last year.

He said the company is currently organising the 42nd Bangkok International Motor Show, scheduled from March 22 to April 4, at Nonthaburi’s Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani.

Prajin said the exhibition will have in place measures to contain the spread of Covid-19, same as the previous year.

“The exhibition’s occupancy rate is already more than 95 per cent. We expect leading automakers to launch new models and campaigns to stimulate sales,” he said.

He added that GPI is seeking opportunities to expand its business, expecting its revenue to increase by 20 per cent this year.
