Thai products win Pakistani hearts

With the aim of expanding business opportunities in Pakistan, the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) exhibited 28 products manufactured in Thailand at last month’s “Top Thai Brands 2019” trade fair in Karachi. More than Bt77 million-worth of trade deals were made at the fair, which ran from July 20 to 22 and covered such diverse products as cosmetics, foods, plastics, shoes, and car parts along with electricity generators, water pumps, and gas stoves.

Banjongjitt Angsusingh, director-general of the DITP, said that some 4,500 visitors from Karachi and nearby turned out to the trade fair on all three days. The business matching service also proved successful with 375 importers signing deals with Thai companies for a total of Bt77 million. Trade deals worth Bt5.7 million were completed at the fair with a further commitment of Bt71.7milion from traders who expect to order products within a year.

Cosmetics, facial and body care products, hair care products, food, plastic products, shoes, automotive parts, residential security equipment and car sprays proved the most popular among buyers. Potential products introduced to the Pakistani market at the fair included electrical generators, water pumps, diesel engines, gas stoves, adhesives, industrial paint, corrugated plastic for packaging, billboards and stationery.

Maker of gas stoves Lucky Flame was invited to invest in a stove manufacturing company in Pakistan.

Thailand is currently negotiating a free trade agreement (FTA) with Pakistan and this is expected to be signed soon. DITP is aiming to open a branch office in Pakistan to support Thai businesses.
