A Night with Maggie Choo’s at the Penthouse featuring Grammy Nominee

Maggie Choo's special event recently emerged from its underground sanctum to the Penthouse Bar + Grill rooftop at the Park Hyatt Bangkok featuring an American Grammy Nominee. The special guest performance thrilled and captivated the guests with live music plus magnificent view at the top, in addtion to the very refined signature cocktails.

The special session was highlighted with powerful voice of award-winning American recording artist, Norwood Young, who performed to guests and revelers at The Penthouse, showing off his talent and cementing his residency at Maggie Choo’s.


 

The unique collaborative takeover was rounded out with guests shimming and dancing the night away with Maggie Choo’s Shanghainese ladies to the tunes by DJ Mr. Jim, along with sipping Asian-infused cocktails mixed by star bartenders like Anders Olsen  and Worachai “Kong” Duangkong.

Grammy Nominee Norwood Young began his career as a youth on American TV shows and landed his first recording deal with MCA Records/ Magnolia Records. His first album “Can’t Let You Go”, was wildly successful on the UK charts.


 

The youthful-looking 47-year-old was signed by EMI as the lead singer for the legendary jazz and R&B group ‘Pieces of a Dream’. He later received his first gold record for the hit “What Can I Do?”.

In 2015,  Norwood's chart-topping single, "I Fell In Love with you first”, garnered a Grammy nomination.

As of July 2019, Norwood Young has joined famed nightclub, “Maggie Choo’s”, headlining their Friday and Saturday nights from 10.00 p.m.

Maggie Choo’s Signature Cocktails:
•    L’Amour De Choco -  320 THB ++
Cacao nibs infused gin, sweet vermouth, campari, orange slice and cacao nibs on top.
A sweet gin based cocktail balancing orange flavours and bitter notes from campari.

•    Rum in Tea -  320 THB ++
Mulberry tea infused Rum, coconut water, lemon juice, pomegranate juice, topped with Pomegranate ruby.
A refreshing rum based cocktail, sweet and lightly sour.

•    Black Blood - 320 THB ++
Gin infused Olean Coffee, Giffard Amaretto liqueur, vodka ogreat, sweet milk, bitter chocolate, chocolate powder, milk foam.
A viciously named cocktail for a drink that packs a flavour punch. Pulling on local thai flavours by infusing Olean thai coffee, with gin and sweetening the flavours with amaretto, this cocktails presents a twist on local thai coffee complete with sweet milk and chocolate

•    Red in Town - 320 THB ++
Fat wash whisky, sesame oil, olean coffee, vermout, absinthe, angostura bitters, orange bitter, almond salt .
A strong tasty cocktail highlighting sesame flavours and local thai coffee, Olean, finished off with touches of orange.

Spanish gin, blueberry jam, red onion syrup, lime juice and top up with sparkling wine
Sweet red onions bring an interesting different type of sweetness to this gin-based cocktail. The sparkling wine top gives it an extra kick and sparkle.

•    Lady Tango - 320 THB ++
Tequila, guava juice, chilly and sugar salt , smoked pear
An interesting asian twist to a margarita with smoked pear giving a sweet smoky tasty finish.

•    Hair of Farang - 320 THB ++
Dark Rum, Oolong honey, banana, Chamomile tea, spices and yellow chartreuse
A rounded flavoured cocktail with a deep sweetness pulling from the rum and honey.

•    White Pearl - 320 THB ++
Cognac, Soya Milk Syrup, Bael juice, pandan soda
A deep flavoured cocktail that plays with traditional thai flavours in Bael and Panda.

A magical underground venue full of mystery, romance and jazz reminiscent of 1930s Shanghai. Located in a basement on Silom road, just a few blocks from the Chao Phraya River. Sunday Maggie Choo’s presents a Drag Cabarete organized by LGBT party organizer Khun Ken Kreangsak Leing’s  G-spot Entertainment, and  hosted by the infamous Pangina Heals, host of TV Show - ‘Drag Race Thailand’. Bangkok’s best drag queens sashay and lipsync all night long. The audience is invited to join the fray by showing off their dance moves or showing off their sassy walk to the hilarious roar of the cheering crowd in exchange for shots or bottles of G.H. Mumms Champagne.

THE LEGEND:                   
A beautiful young girl from the countryside started in life begging and singing in the streets of Shanghai. Eventually she was discovered by a Cabaret owner who made her the star act of his famed establishment in Shanghai. Courted by many men and adventurers she fell in love with a handsome Japanese officer but their passionate love affair led to his demise - in Maggie’s own hands.                
As the prime suspect of the Japanese army, she fled Shanghai in 1937 and travelled to Bangkok. One day, while walking by the hotel she was staying in, she found a shop house selling noodles and fell in love with it. After having purchased the business and during renovations, she found a door behind a wall that led to a derelict old bank, once owned by the East Indian Trading Company... And thus the legend began...
