Amazon cafe to open 450 new branches next year

PTT Oil and Retail Business Pcl (OR) will expand its Amazon cafe chain by another 450 branches in the domestic and foreign markets, as well as stepping into Vietnam.

Amazon cafe plans to open 400 new branches in Thailand and 50 abroad next year. After the expansion, there will be a total of 3200 branches with 2900 in the country and 300 overseas, said Senior Executive Vice President Suchat Ramarch.
OR plans to enlarge its footprint in ten countries - China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Japan, and Oman. It will soon announce an investment plan for Vietnam, a new market.
“The domestic coffee market, posting an annual growth rate of 10 per cent, still has potential with an average consumption of just 1.2 kilogram per person compared with 1.6-1.7 kilogram in Vietnam and 3 kilogram in Japan,” Suchat said.
In line with the company's policy to create benefits for society, community and environment, it has responded to the government's plastic waste management plan (2018-2030).
It is important to reduce the amount of plastic used in business operations. Cafe Amazon is also participating in environmental conservation under the Go Green concept by changing to environmentally- friendly and biodegradable materials, such as glass, Bio Cup (paper cup coated BioPBS chemical), paper tubes, and PLA glass, made from plants, for cold beverages. The policy will help reduce the amount of waste by approximately 645 tonnes per year.
Amazon cafe also applied the 3R principles ( Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) by giving back Bt5 to each customer bringing in their own cup. The practice has slashed the usage of plastic cups by 31 million since the campaign started in June 2018.
