New digital Robinhood arrives to help small businesses survive crisis

Purple Ventures, a subsidiary of SCB 10X, on Monday launched the food-delivery app Robinhood, which aims to help at least 16,000 small restaurants and merchants join the digital marketplace.

The app will initially cover deliveries in Bangkok and its vicinity before expanding further early next year.

Robinhood also aims to provide jobs for at least 10,000 people, while its 100-per-cent cashless payment platform ensures delivery staff do not have to pay first for cash-on-delivery orders.

With this app, customers can pay for their orders via direct debit on the SCB Easy app or via credit, debit or cash cards.

Thana Thienachariya, chairman of Purple Ventures’ board of directors, said: “Merchants and consumers are welcome to join the Robinhood app and provide feedback for continued platform development and improvement to benefit both merchants and riders during this time of crisis.”

Next year, Robinhood will offer more job opportunities to riders who do not have their own motorbikes by providing vehicles on a daily hire basis.

Also in the pipeline for next year are new features such as customers being able to place orders from several shops in the same area, credit-card point redemption and Robinhood wallet among others.
