Booths to be set up for mourners at late King’s cremation

The government plans to set up public booths for mourners taking part in the His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Aduyadej’s cremation in October to lay traditional wooden funeral flowers, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said on Wednesday.

As the central venue of the historic event will be Sanam Luang ceremonial ground in Bangkok, where the royal funeral pyre is located, booths will be set up in designated areas for mourners to participate in the funeral flower-laying ritual.
Wissanu said each booth will feature the same portrait of the late King that is installed in front of the royal urn in the Grand Palace. He also said there was a possibility that more public holidays would be declared during the royal cremation ceremony, as the responsible committee was currently considering the matter.
