Sukhothai's Khirimas district suffered its worst flooding in 15 years, forcing the closure of all shops in a commercial area of Tambon Tanote municipality, a source in the province said on Sunday.

The district was hit by runoffs from upstream in Khamphaeng Phetch's Pran Kratai combined with mountain runoffs from the Ram Kham Haeng National Park (Khao Luang) from Saturday night.

Floodwaters were over 60cm deep, with roads impassable for small vehicles. Residents erected sandbag barriers to protect their homes from the floodwater.

Ten tambons of Khirimas suffered extensive flooding which affected 5,536 households.
