A 40-year-old woman was found killed and apparently raped in Chanthaburi’s Khao Kitchakud district on Friday morning, police said.

Police said the woman’s employer found the body after he went to the woman’s house to call her and an elderly man she stayed with for work at the employer’s fruit orchard.

Pol Lt Col Samarn Chaichan, deputy inspector of Khao Kitchakud police station, identified the woman only as ‘Prae’ and the man she stayed with as ‘Yo’, 65.

When the employer arrived at their house, Yo, was not at home.

Samarn said police would hunt for the 65-year-old man on suspicion that he had killed and raped the woman, who was found with her trousers pulled off and her shirt partially opened.

Samarn quoted the employer as saying his wife had received a phone call from Prae on Thursday night to say she wanted to quit the fruit-picking job because she could no longer tolerate Yo.

Samarn said Prae and Yo were not relatives but had met by chance on their way to seek jobs in Chanthaburi. Prae allegedly asked Yo to be her stepfather. They applied for fruit picking jobs with the current employer late last month.

Samarn said Prae often complained to the orchard owner’s wife that Yo had tried to molest her lately.
