More than 360,000 drug suspects arrested in one year
AUTHORITIES have arrested 364,587 drug suspects and seized more than Bt1.46 billion worth of assets linked to drug trafficking during the past year.
Between October 2013 and September 2014, authorities also confiscated more than 96 million methamphetamine tablets, 1,072 kilos of crystal methamphetamine, 497 kilos of heroin, and 28,103 kilos of marijuana.
According to the authorities, 289,288 drug abusers underwent drug treatments in the period. Of this number, 125,246 did it voluntarily.
The information on the anti-drug operations was presented during a meeting of 27 relevant authorities, including the Defence Minister, the Interior Ministry and National Police Office yesterday. Justice Minister General Paiboon Khumchaya presided over the meeting, which also discussed an urgent plan to fight the scourge of drugs during the last quarter of 2014.
