Navy tries to convince public submarines necessary

The Navy is persuading the public for support to its plan to purchase three submarines from China at the price of Bt36 billion.

Navy commander-in-chief Admiral Kraisorn Chansuwanit said Thursday that Thailand’s maritime interest is estimated at Bt24 trillion while the submarines would cost far less than that.
“It’s the best worth for the money,” he said, adding that the submarines would serve as the country’s maritime fences during its commission for the next 30 years.
Thailand has a maritime area of over 300,000 square miles covering the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea.
