Ban on protests against Songkhla power plant

Songkhla governor Thamrong Charoenkul has signed an order to block public protests against the third public hearing on a coal-fired power plant.

Under the order, protests are barred from midnight of July 26 until midnight of July 28. Violators are liable to up to 3 months of imprisonment or fine up to Bt6,000, or both. 
The power plant is planned for Thepa district in the southern province. 
The governor also urged local residents in the district to join the two-day public hearing, inviting them to express their opinions. 
The governor would chair the public hearing.
