New York (dpa) - Personal computer manufacturer Dell is expected Monday to announce plans for the takeover of the data storage company EMC in what would be the largest technology merger ever, a news report said.
Negotiations on the deal continued into late Sunday with Dell offering EMC about 33 dollars per share, the financial news agency Bloomberg reported, citing unnamed informed sources.
Such an offer would be higher than EMC's closing price Friday of 28 dollars, which put the value of the company at 53 billion dollars.
With the takeover of EMC, Dell could widen its data storage services, strengthening its position against rival Hewlett-Packard.
According to Bloomberg, Dell is to finance the deal with 40 billion dollars from banks.
