Guard killed by suspected insurgents in southern Thailand

Bangkok (dpa) - Suspected insurgents in southern Thailand shot dead a security guard who worked for a provincial court early Tuesday, officials said.

Singha Wanthong, 37, was shot on his way to work at Yala Provincial Court, according to Colonel Banphot Phunphien of the army's Internal Security Operations Command.
He was shot in the head and torso and died at the scene.
No group took immediate responsibility. Several attacks have been attributed to Muslim insurgents since talks in Bangkok broke down on October 12.
Ten bombings have killed a total of three people since then, and at least two more have been shot.
