Suthep expresses full support for draft constitution

Suthep Thaugsuban, the chief of the People’s Democratic Reform Foundation, Sunday expressed full support the draft constitution.

He said the draft has been written to best respond to Thailand’s special situation and the preface of the draft also affirmed that Thailand was moving ahead to the democratic system with the King being the head of the state.
Suthep said the details of the draft must be considered based on the fact that the country was in crisis until the coup maker stepped in to find a solution for the country. Suthep led the People’s Democratic Reform Committee in their protests against the Yingluck government until the May 2014 coup took place.
He said the draft has clear guideline for national reforms in the provisional clauses.
He said the draft would make senators really independent from political parties. He added that it was necessary for the draft to provide a channel for a non-MP to become the prime minister when a crisis happens.
“I always listen to the voice of the people and I have been monitoring the drafting of the constitution. So, I hereby affirm with my personal opinion from my experience that I have been working for the PDRC that this draft is good and is suitable for the current situation,” Suthep said.
“The draft will give us hope regarding to reforms.”
