Director-general of Department of Special Investigation (DSI) Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang said on Thursday that he was contacted by Dhammakaya Temple about the surrender of the abbot Phra Dhammachayo.
"Due to his [the abbot] illness, DSI officials may have to go to meet and inform him of the charges against him at a hospital instead of taking him to meet the DSI," he said.
However, Paisit said it would be clear in the afternoon whether Dhammachayo will or will not surrender or the venue of acknowledging the charges.
The abbot is facing charges of conspiring to launder money and ill-gotten wealth, including a big donation from a bankrupt savings cooperative.
"DSI will stand by to accept the surrender the whole day," he said.
