Big flow of tourists during religious holidays

KOBKARN Wattanavrangkul, Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports, said 2.7 million local and foreign tourists travelled in the Kingdom from Saturday till Wednesday during Asanha Puja Day and Buddhist Lent Day.

They spent Bt41.88 billion, a 15 per cent increase compared to same period last year, she said.

The minister said foreigners spent Bt22.89 billion and locals spent Bt18.99 billion.

The top destinations were the Central and Northeast regions, which offered a variety of events and festivals such as the Candle Festival in Ubon Ratchathani province and the Flower Merit in Ayutthaya province.
