Sukhothai's downtown hit by flashflooding

The Yom River burst its banks and overflew to flood Sukhothai's downtown late Thursday night.

By Friday morning, officials were rushing to fix the burst banks and to try to drain the floodwater.
Roads around government offices, including the provincial hall, the prison, the provincial police head office, were under about 30 to 40 centimer-deep water.
Sukhothai governor Piti Kaewslabsri called an urgent meeting of agencies concerned at 8:30 am to brainstorm measures for draining the downtown.
At 8 am, the water level of the Yom River was 7.11 metre, approaching the crisis level of 7.40 metres.
