Malaysia releases 12 of 21 women detained in Johor

The Malaysian authorities have released the first batch of 12 women out of the 21 elderly women who were detained last September after being allegedly duped into going to work in Malaysia’s Johor state without proper documentation.

Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) deputy chief Rear Admiral Somkiat Polprayoon, who welcomed the 12 women at the Songkhla’s Sadao Border Checkpoint yesterday, said the case of the remaining nine women was under legal process and they should be released later.
