Some 1,500 lay followers ignored the ultimatum of the Department of Special Investigation and broke through the barrier of police and DSI officials to rally inside the Dhammakaya Temple Sunday afternoon.

Earlier on the day, the DSI issued an ultimatum for non-residents of the temple to clear the compound by 3 pm no matter whether they are monks, novices or lay followers.

But at about 1:30 pm, some 1,500 lay followers and some monks gathered outside Gate 5 of the temple, claiming they wanted to pray there. After the officials guarding the gate were outnumbered, the lay followers stormed in and the helpless officials just looked on, saying they did not want to clash with people.

After they were inside the temple, the lay followers formed lines to prevent officials from going inside the temple.
