Malaysian police to North Korea: Hand them over

Malaysian police have identified one as the second secretary at the North Korean embassy here, and the other as an employee at North Korean airline Air Koryo, said Khalid Abu Bakar.

The Inspector-General of Police said Bukit Aman has requested the embassy hand them over to assist the investigation.

“We submitted the request today. “If they refuse to cooperate, then we will issue warrants of arrest on both of them,” he told a press conference Wednesday morning.

On the other four suspects who are believed to have gone back to Pyongyang, Khalid said police have asked North Korean Government to assist in apprehending them.

“We believe these four are heavily involved in the attack,” he said, adding that police are hoping the North Korean Government will cooperate.

Last Thursday, Indonesian Siti Aisyah was arrested at a hotel in Ampang here at 2am. Police said she was identified based on CCTV footage at the airport and was alone at the time of arrest. Her boyfriend was also picked up by police to assist with investigations.

Last Wednesday, the first suspect, who holds a Vietnamese passport bearing the name Doan Thi Huong, was arrested at KL International Airport 2 (KLIA2) as she was preparing to board a flight to Vietnam.

She had taken a taxi from a hotel in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi to the airport that day.

Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, was killed by two women who splashed his face with a chemical at the KLIA 2 departure hall at about 9am on Feb 13. He was about to leave for Macau.
