Activist jailed on lese-majeste charges to hear Supreme Court verdict

Labour activist Somyot Prueksakasemsuk who was jailed on lese-majeste charges will hear a Supreme Court verdict today.

Suspected of violating Article 112 of the Criminal Code, the long-time activist allegedly was the editor of the Voice of Thaksin magazine, which published two articles deemed insulting to the monarchy.

The Criminal Court ruled Somyot was guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. The Appeals Court upheld the verdict. Somyot has been in prison for almost six years and is one of several accused who are fighting lese-majeste charges in court.
