Shopee Thailand reports more than 5 million downloads

Shopee, a mobile marketplace in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, has reported significant growth across the region, achieving US$1.8 billion (Bt63 billion) in annualised gross merchandise value last year with 43percent monthonmonth growth in December.

Shopee marked a milestone of 25 million downloads and more than 65 million product listings across the seven markets it serves. To date, Shopee Thailand has achieved more than 5 million downloads.
“Thailand is a key market given the strong mobile penetration and massive potential,” said chief operating officer Terence Pang.
He added that last year “has been great for us, where we achieved over 1 million orders monthly by December 2016. As we look forward to an exciting year in 2017, we expect to maintain the strong doubledigit growth that we experienced last year.
“We will continue to focus our efforts on optimising the product and user experience, empowering entrepreneurs to grow their online businesses and partnering business corporate sellers to offer more options for our users.”
Shopee Thailand is focusing on the expansion of market segments, including improving its product portfolio by adding more categories and bringing on board more official shops to increase product variety for buyers.
“At Shopee, our focus has always been about growing our users,” Pang said. “By partnering with business sellers, we offer more options for our buyers and provide them with easy access to highquality products.
“Business sellers love Shopee given the access to younger consumers, especially in this social age. This, we believe, further optimises the shopping experience for our users while continuing [to enable] individual sellers to grow.”
As part of the company’s focus on expanding its product portfolio, Shopee has announced a “Mobile and Electronics Madness” campaign, offering many attractive deals and promotions, including discounts of up to 90 per cent across categories such as mobile and gadgets, computer and accessories and photography.
Several tech brands, such as Skullcandy, WD, Jabra, Belkin and Plantronics, have joined the campaign to provide a broad range of options at attractive prices.
“We’ve seen enormous demand for our mobile and electronics selections over the past few months and this promotion celebrates our phenomenal growth in these categories. We work closely with our sellers to ensure we offer the best value for the wide selection of products that our buyers want,” Pang said.
