Thai firms join 'Together for Women's Day' fair

Thai celebrities and corporations have joined forces with UN Women for #HeForShe Arts Week and “Together for Women’s Day” , an open fair aimed at celebrating women and raising awareness of the importance of gender equality.

The corporate partners for #HeForShe Arts Week in Bangkok are Orami, Grab and Kaidee – three technology companies noted for defending gender equality in the workplace.
This is the first time in Thailand for corporations, nonprofit organisations and influential individuals to come together to show their support for the issue.
The event will take place at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre from 28pm on March 11, the first weekend after International Women’s Day.
HeForShe is a solidarity campaign advancing gender equality by encouraging men and boys to come together to help end inequalities towards women, girls and the LGBTQ community.
“Gender equality is everybody’s issue” – not only for women, but also men; not only for individuals, but also groups and companies.
“By empowering women, we are empowering our whole society,” xxx said.
Together for Women’s Day mixes entertainment, education, artistic performances, workshops, activities and famous public figures to raise awareness about gender equality in a fun atmosphere.
The highlights of the day include honouring designated celebrities and industry leaders such as Thailand’s HeForShe Advocates.
Notable public figures participating in the event are Metinee Kingpayome, Theetawit Setthachai, Pimpaka Siangsomboon, Natalie Glebova, Amita Marie Young, Shannon Kalayanamitr, Chatadul Sinapongpipit, Chollada Mekratree, Nichole Theriault, Prom Sirisant and Piyarat Kaljareuk.
“We are witnessing a momentum that represents a unique opportunity to position gender equality at the heart of the global agenda,” said Alejandro Hita, HeForShe regional campaign coordinator.
“With this wave of support from people, popular influencers, public and private organisations, the HeForShe movement will continue to engage with everybody, as equal partners, to become agents of change towards the achievement of gender equality.”
Orami is Thailand’s online shopping destination for women; Kaidee, Thailand’s online marketplace; and Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading ridehailing platform.
Other corporate players confirming their participation are Tencent, Google, Agoda, Honest Bee, Proflex, Fabbrigade and Go Wabi.
Music is sponsored by Joox with three DJs playing good tunes and vibes.
Tiwa York, chief executive officer and head coach of Kaidee, said Kaidee supports advancing diversity in the workplace to help build an awesome team and a better product and to improve lives throughout Thailand.
Wee Tang, country head of Grab, said Grab has become Southeast Asia’s leading ridehailing platform by providing safe, affordable and reliable transport for women and men equally.
“We are proud to take part with likeminded businesses and influencers to advance gender equality in our region,” he said.
Two goodwill organisations for women’s health and protection – Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer Foundation and Pratthanadee Foundation – are bringing their expertise to Together for Women’s Day.
Food will be catered by the popular and healthy Bangkok eateries Rocket X, Barrio Bonito, Marcel, Chomp, Mad About Juice and Emack & Bolios.
Free educational and artistic workshops in Thai and English will be held inside BACC with seating limited.
Aiming to inspire, entertain and educate, the workshops cover topics as varied as “Selfimprovement for greater gender equality” by Grab, “Work/Life Balance” by Global Shapers, “Communicating with Confidence” by Connecting Founders, “Healthy Eating” by nutritional counsellor Olga Vita and “Childbirth Education” with the doula Rasee Govindani.
The artistic agenda includes dance and theatre performances by BFloor, spoken poetry by Bedroom Poet and Neil Gaiman’s Blueberry Girl by Anna Manuel of Heads and Tales Storytelling.
The workshop schedule and registrations will be released progressively on the Facebook event page.
