Aruba sees IoT potential in Thailand

Aruba sees potential in the Internet of Things market in Thailand. 

The driving forces of IoT adoption here are mobile and social adoption, government initiatives and ICT spending.

Partha Narasimhan, chief technology officer at HPE Arub, said the market potential in Thailand is in the healthcare and retail segments.

There is a strong intersection between what Aruba can deliver and what the Thai government is going to do locally. 

Smart City is the area of IoT in Thailand that has the most potential for Aruba since it is not just providing the infrastructure, but also providing the platform that is on top of their infrastructure, to really deliver intelligence at the end of the network.

“The smart city environment, the devices that are available because they are in the environment for a long time. 

“We have this open, extensible platform we are driving, we can have partners, right application to that open operating system to optimise the running of the application of that particular network infrastructure. 

“So it’s not just what we deliver, not just the hardware infrastructure that we do, but the abstraction of the platform to which partners can write applications.

“To optimise applications in a smart city environment is something we uniquely deliver in the market,” he said.

To deploy devices and the software platform in the Thai market, the company will work with partners in Thailand to create specific applications that can get optimised.

“We can take an example. 

“If there’s another traffic congestion usually in Thailand, the ability for us to manage that through connected devices to surveillance cameras to traffic light sensors, that capability to solve that specific problem and deliver a specific business outcome for the problem is something we work on. 

“So, the strategy we used is to look at specific areas where there is a connected parking capability, calculate the capability within the smart city initiative in which it’s driven and then work on that baby step to deliver an endtoend solution that brings it all together,” he said.

Acquiring customers is a continuous process. The company continues to look for installbased customers and grow their bases and its footprint within their organisation and then acquire new customers. 

To deliver this kind of solution, whether it’s a smart city or healthcare solution, it needs the ability beyond the infrastructure – a partner. 

All of that will require services to deliver on top of just the infrastructure tools. 

“We already have the service portfolio when we have reached across Thailand or across the region to really deliver the service whether it is rural area or open area. 

“So now, we are gaining market share because there are few, maybe not even a handful of, companies that can deliver an endtoend solution. 

“Services, solution, software stack and stitching it all together to bring an ultimate business outcome for customers,” he said.
