Arisman defamation verdict postponed to March 28

Arisman defamation verdict postponed to March 28

The Supreme Court verdict in the defamation case against singer turned political activist Arisman Pongruangrong has been postponed to March 28.

The verdict was set to be delivered on Friday but Arisman was reported to be suffering abdominal pain and was currently in the hospital.
Arisman has been accused of defaming former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva in his televised political speech in front of the Democracy Monument in December 2009.
The criminal court ruled the activist guilty, reasoning he was damaging the former PM’s reputation for political gain and not out of earnest intention. The court ordered him to be jailed for 12 months.
An appeal court upheld the ruling.
