Two Myanmar workers killed, 13 others injured in van accident

Two Myanmar workers were killed and 13 others injured when a van they chartered to Tak crashed into the rear of a trailer truck in Kamphaengphet early Sunday.

Police said the accident happened at 5:20 am on the northern-bound Phaholyothin road in Kamphaengphet’s Muang district.
The van was driven by Chuchart Phuphanee, 49, and truck by Wisant Nopsri, 46.
Police interviewed the workers through an interpreter and learned that the Myanmar workers jointly chartered the van Saturday night to transport them to Mae Sot district in Tak to cross the border to return home.
The workers said they did not not see anything because they were sleeping when the accident happened.
The truck driver told police that he was driving on the left lane and heard an explosion sound. He thought one of tyres exploded so he pulled over and found that his truck had been hit by the van.
The van driver claimed that his van was hit by something, leading to the accident. But police suspected that the van driver dozed off, and thus causing the accident.
