The Pheu Thai Party has not rejected the government’s efforts to forge reconciliation but wants an independent body to synthesise the wide range of views, one of the party’s leaders, Chaikasem Nitisiri, said on Friday.

Pheu Thai last week submitted a letter calling for the disbanding of the reconciliation preparation committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, as well as its sub-panels.

Chaikasem said the views and opinions shared by different political parties and groups invited by the committee were very useful, but the task of synthesising them should be entrusted to an independent body so as to ensure impartiality, which is crucial for reconciliation.
