Thunderstorms, rains forecast for many parts of Thailand

The Meteorological Department on Monday warned residents in many parts of the country to brace for thunderstorms and heavy rains.

In the warning issued at 5am, the department reasoned that a moderate high pressure ridge has moved down from China to cover upper Thailand, resulting in storms and heavy rains.

The warning forecast summer thunderstorms from Monday to Wednesday in the following provinces:

North: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Phetchabun, Phitsanulok, Phichit and Kamphaeng Phet.

Northeast: Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram and Surin.

East: Nakhon Nayok, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.

Central: Nakhon Sawan, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Ayutthaya, Chai Nat, Uthai Thani, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, including Bangkok and its vicinity.

South: Isolated heavy rain mostly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Phuket and Phang Nga.
