Incident near US Capitol appears unconnected to terrorism: police

WASHINGTON - A Wednesday incident near the US Capitol in which a woman crashed her car into a police cruiser and narrowly missed several officers on foot appears unrelated to terrorism, police said.

"This incident appears to be criminal in nature with no nexus to terrorism, and in addition the Capitol complex remains open to the public," Capitol Police communications director Eva Malecki told reporters.

Police fired shots during the incident, which occured just a block from the Capitol complex, but no one was injured and the suspect, described by police as an "erratic and aggressive driver," was taken into custody.
