Journalists urged to show opposition to media regulation bill

The Thai Journalists Association (TJA) on Friday encouraged media workers to label their online profile pictures with a banner opposing the media regulation bill draft.

“Stop! Licensing media. Stop! Overshadowing people” reads the banner, which is decorated with a graphic photo of a fist breaking a chain.
TJA president Pramed Lekpetch, and some journalists have already changed their profile pictures.
The expression is meant to oppose the media regulation bill draft, which is currently being considered by the junta-appointed National Reform Steering Assembly’s media reform committee.
Controversial points included in the draft bill include a licensing requirement for all media workers, including online staff, and the inclusion of ministerial permanent secretaries on a media professional council.

Profile pictures can be made via http://tja.or.th/WPFDprofile/
