Hotels and resorts on the popular Khao Lak beach in Phang Nga raised red flags on the beach on Wednesday morning to warn tourists against swimming in the sea.

Sayan Kijmano, chief of Phang Nga’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said the warning was issued in response to a forecast of strong winds and a rough sea by the Meteorological Department. The department warned that the southwest monsoon over the Andaman is gaining strength, resulting in giant waves.

Sayan also warned local administrations in the southern province to get prepared for torrential rains, flash flooding and mudslides on Wednesday.
