Truck driver arrested over hit-and-run accident that killed woman
A truck driver was arrested in Prachin Buri province on Wednesday for failing to stop his truck after a woman motorcyclist was crushed under its wheel in the province’s Buri district.
Somkiart Pongkun, 28, was arrested about two kilometres from the scene of the accident that happened at an intersection on the Kabin Buri-Pakthongchai Road at 1 pm.
The motorcyclist, Maliwan Chanthapan, 22, was crushed to death at the scene.
Somkiart claimed he did not stop because he did not realise that his truck had hit and run over Maliwan.
Police believe the truck grazed the woman’s motorcycle when the traffic lights turned green, sending the motorcycle sliding into the road island and throwing her in front of the moving truck’s rear wheel.
