Supreme VC claim Asian Women’s Club crown and secure 2018 World Club berth

Thailand’s Supreme VC reigned supreme over the SMM 2017 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship at the Boris Alexandrov Sports Palace in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan after pulling off a dramatic 3-1 (25-15 25-23 23-25 25-13) win over former two-time champions Hisamitsu Springs from Japan in the final showdown on Wednesday.

Supreme, which won the 2017 Thailand League and the Thai-Denmark Super League, were powered by six Thailand national team players comprising Pleumjit Thinkaow, Wilavan Apinyapong, Chatchu-on Moksri, Soraya Phlomla, Ajcharaporn Kongyot and Piyanut Pannoy and strengthened by two internationals Fatou Diouck from Senegal and American Chloe Mann.

With the straight-set win, Supreme VC became the second team from Thailand to win the Asian Club title and earn a slot for the next year’s FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship, which the host city has yet revealed. Bangkok Glass were the Thailand’s first club team to win the Asian crown in 2015, but this is the Thailand’s fifth title in the Asian Women’s Club Championship. Thailand have already captured four Asian Women’s Club titles. The Thailand national women’s team made it three in a row by winning the Asian Club crown in 2009 and 2010 under the Federbrau’s banner and repeated the feat in 2011, representing Chang Club.
