Samai Chaisit, who works as a security guard at a shopping mall, was captured by residents of Soi Korphai in tambon Nong Plue in Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung district.
He was nabbed after the woman staggered out of her shanty house and cried for help. She had a knife wound in the chest.
Thanasak Khonchom, 34, a neighbour, said he spotted the woman so he alerted other neighbours.
He said he spotted Samai walking on the soi and he met the description of the suspect as told by the woman.
The woman said she was sleeping alone in her shanty house when the attacker used a knife to intimidate her when he raped her.
She resisted and was stabbed once, she said.
Samai denied raping the woman and said the attacker might be his friend, who is also a security guard at the same shopping mall.
Police took him away for further interrogation and to carry out forensics.
