Chart Pattana, which is considered a middle-sized party, on Thursday joined the major political parties in disagreeing with the immediate implementation of the primary voting system, saying voters and political parties might not be ready for it.

Secretary-general Praset Boonchaisuk said people needed to be equipped with knowledge about the system first, adding that it could be implemented when society is ready or when political reforms and the new set of rules are more clear.

The system, he said, could retard party development, while posing obstacles due to the limited time parties had to prepare themselves.

The system implemented in other countries did not have to be the same in Thailand, he said.
