They said Abdulkoder Jeteh, 44, had been slain inside his Daihatsu Mira on a road in Ban Salow village in Tambon Rusoh at 10am.
The man had been shot in the chest, right side and the back of the head.
Witnesses told police that when the car had arrived at the location, two attackers on a motorcycle caught up with the vehicle and the rider opened fire at the driver with a shotgun, causing the car to crash into a power pole.
The pillion rider then fired five more shots from an AK476 assault rifle and the attackers sped off.
Police found five ammunition shells at the scene.
