Eight Cambodians arrested for sneaking into Thailand

Immigration police and rangers arrested eight Cambodians on Monday morning after they climbed over a border concrete wall into Sa Kaew’s Aranyaprathet district.

The five men and three women were found hiding in a carpark at Klong Luek Market.
They climbed over the wall along the bank of Klong Luek canal, which borders Aranyaprathet and Poipet on the Cambodian side of the border, said Pol Colonel Benjapol Rodsawat, the Sak Kaew immigration chief.
Benjapol said the Cambodians told police they paid Bt3,000 each to a Cambodian in Poipet, with the promise of securing them work in Bangkok.
They did not have travel and work documents, he said.
He said the Cambodians were told to climb over the wall and wait for Cambodians to pick them up and smuggle them to Bangkok.
Benjapol asked Cambodian immigration officers in Poipet to send two representatives to Thailand to interrogate the Cambodians in a bid to find the person who brokered the deal.
