Two drug suspects were killed in a gunfight with narcotics police in Chiang Rai late Wednesday night when police tried to arrest them in a sting operation.

An undercover policeman contacted the two suspects to buy drugs from them on the bypass road of Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district at 11pm.

But the two suspects fired at police in an attempt to escape when they realised that it was a set-up.

After the 10-minute gunfight, police killed the two suspects.

Police found 2.122 million methamphetamine pills and 65 kilograms of crystal meth or “ice” on the pickup.
