“DJ Fah Sai” fined for illegally advertising alcohol on social media

“Net idol” Tithirat “DJ Fah Sai” Inthep is the latest celebrity to have met with police to acknowledge charges of illegally advertising alcoholic products.

Tithirat, accompanied with her lawyer, went to the Muang Nonthaburi Police Station on Monday afternoon to hear the charges filed under the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act.
She was questioned Pol Lt Col Wachiranusorn Kampaeng for nearly two hours before leaving the precinct without commenting to reporters.
According to police, she admitted to illegally advertising alcohol through her social media presence and was thus sent to pay a fine at the Public Health Ministry’s Office of Alcohol Control Committee.
Police said actions of 19 celebrities violated the act. Several who have not yet heard the charges, such as Pailin “Hwa Hwa” Rattanasangsatian and Sean Jindachot, have contacted police to schedule meetings.
Police earlier this year launched an operation to monitor Thai social media to punish any actors, “net idols”, or celebrities who posed for messages and pictures inviting others to drink alcoholic beverages. It comes in the wake of the growing use of online media as an advertising channel for alcoholic beverages.
Under the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act there is a fine of Bt50,000 to Bt200,000 for publicly advertising alcoholic drinks and showing the names and logos of alcoholic drinks to promote them to boost alcohol consumption.
